Maui saved his
mother by cracking this huge
boulder with his magic club,
releasing the flood waters.
He chased Mo'o Kuna from
Rainbow Falls to far up the river.

He cornered Mo'o Kuna who was
] hiding in one of several deep pools
in the river. Maui called upon Pele,
goddess of the volcano, to send
him molten lava and hot stones to
cast into the pools.

The pools boiled
furiously sending steam far above.
Badly burned and exhausted, Mo'o Kuna
crawled down the river to die at a point
below Rainbow Falls, within sight of
Hina's home, never again threatening
the beloved goddess, Hina.

Although time has cooled the waters,
these "Boiling Pots" still bubble
and surge, especially during heavy
rains, reminding us of this battle.

Reggie and I were alone
most of the day at this site.
Alot of out of the way hikes
are well worth it after the day is done.

We will be returning to this place,
We are sure with each rain
the changes must be spectacular.
